Eight Sleep Alternative Contactless | Sleep Trackers Without a Pod Cover
Dovy Paukstys
Founder, Komori Care
Eight Sleep's current model is Pod 6. The US product page lists the standard cover at $2,899, with sizes starting at $1,999. Autopilot is a separate plan: $17 / $25 / $33 per month ($199 / $299 / $399 billed annually) on eightsleep.com/autopilot. If you searched for an alternative, decide first whether you want active heating and cooling or just contactless sleep tracking.
Disclosure: I am Dovy, founder of Komori Care. Contactless bedside radar for sleep position, coming 2027, wellness only, not FDA-cleared. Komori Lite $399, Komori with base $799. One-press top button cuts sensing. Optional camera records to an encrypted SD card.
Quick answer
- Orion Sleep System (from $2,195, orionsleep.com): Water-based dual-zone cover. Heating and cooling 50–113°F. Sleep-stage / HR / HRV tracking sits behind optional Orion Intelligence at $250/year. Vendor says heating, cooling, schedules, and dual-zone keep working without that subscription.
- Somnus Lab Sleep Pad (somnuslab.com): Water-based pad, 12–42°C / 54–108°F, dual-zone, physical buttons. US page was a waitlist when we checked. EU King lists at €2,899. Vendor says no mandatory subscription for core temperature control.
- Withings Sleep Analyzer ($199.95): Tracking only. JMIR 2026 home study as above. No temperature control.
- OZI Sleep Tracker ($199): Under-sheet tracking, multi-bed dashboard, no temperature control.
- Sleepal AI Lamp ($399, Sleepal store): Bedside radar lamp. No temperature control.
- Komori Care (coming 2027): Camera-free position timeline. No temperature control.
Why people leave Eight Sleep
Cost. Pod 6 Standard is $2,899 before Autopilot. Orion's bundle is listed from $2,195. A tracking-only mat is $199.95.
Subscription. Autopilot is sold as the intelligence layer. Orion's heating/cooling is described as working without Intelligence. Withings and OZI have no required subscription for core tracking.
You may not want a cover. If the search is really "contactless tracker," a $3,000 temperature system is the wrong aisle.
Orion Sleep System
Smart cover plus Control Tower. Dual-zone 50–113°F. Queen / King / California King. Vendor comparison page says no required subscription for heating, cooling, schedules, thermal alarms, and the app; Orion Intelligence (stages, heart rate, HRV, recommendations) is $250/year.
That is a real product at orionsleep.com. It is not "$800 cheaper" as a fixed number — compare the size you actually want against current Pod 6 and Autopilot pricing.
Somnus Lab Sleep Pad
Thermoelectric water pad, 12–42°C (not 48°C), dual-zone, physical buttons that work offline. In-pad sensors are marketed for heart rate, breathing, motion, and stages. US storefront said "Join the Waitlist." EU listing we found: €2,899 for EU King.
Treat it as a heating/cooling alternative that may not be shipping in the US yet. Confirm region and ship date on somnuslab.com.
Withings, OZI, Sleepal — tracking only
If temperature is not the job:
- Withings Sleep Analyzer, $199.95, under-mattress, withings.com.
- OZI, $199, under-sheet, ozisleep.com.
- Sleepal AI Lamp, $399, nightstand radar.
See the Withings Sleep Analyzer alternative write-up for the mat aisle.
Komori Care (coming 2027)
Position timeline, not a cooling cover. Lite $399, with base $799. One-press top button cuts sensing. Optional camera to an encrypted SD card. Wellness only. Waitlist.
