Sleep Tracker With a Dog (or Cat) in Bed: What Works and What Gets Confused
Dovy Paukstys
Founder, Komori Care
Pets confuse most no-wearable trackers when they lie on or near the sensor or between you and a bedside device. Pets at the foot of the bed are usually fine for mats that sit under your chest. If your dog sleeps against you all night, a wearable is the cleanest data, and that's an honest answer.
Disclosure: I am Dovy, founder of Komori Care. Contactless bedside radar for sleep position, coming 2027, wellness only, not FDA-cleared. Komori Lite $399, Komori with base $799. One-press top button cuts sensing. Optional camera records to an encrypted SD card.
Short answer
Three sentences, then the vendor quotes.
A mat or radar does not know your dog is a dog. It knows motion, weight or distance in its field. A wearable on your wrist or finger only sees you.

What vendors say
Tempur-Pedic Sleeptracker-AI: pets at the foot of the bed "should not affect your heart rate or respiratory rate data." A pet that gets up or moves at night could. There is a pets-in-bed setting. Select "Yes" for "Do you allow pets in your bed?" (Tempur-Pedic).
Sleepme: if a pet lies on or near the tracker, the device "may mistakenly register them as a sleeper" (Sleepme).
Google Nest Hub: calibrate alone with pets out of the room. A pet in the same spot or between you and the Hub "will affect your data" (Sleep Sensing FAQ).
wellune-A1: "Multiple people in the same sensing area may affect measurements. Do not assume one device can distinguish and track two people at once" (wellune-A1).
Withings: Sleep Analyzer "can only track the sleep of one person." Use one sensor per person, on each side of the bed (Withings).
Setup tips
- Put a chest-level mat or strip under you, not under the pet.
- Keep the pet at the foot if the vendor says that is the safe zone.
- Recalibrate when you change the layout. Nest Hub wants you alone in the room for that step.
- Check nights the pet was out. If those nights look different, the pet is in the data.
- Don't aim a bedside radar across the dog.

FAQ
Will my cat be counted as asleep? It can be. Sleepme says a pet on or near the tracker may be registered as the sleeper. Nest Hub says a pet in the same spot will affect your data.
Is radar or a mat better with pets? Depends where the pet sleeps. A mat under your chest can ignore a dog at the foot (Tempur). A bedside radar sees whatever is in the calibrated range. Neither is magic.
Does a wearable avoid the problem? Yes for the sleeper's own data. The watch or ring is on you, not on the dog. You give up the no-wearable job.
What about a pet that sleeps between partners? That's two people plus a pet. See sleep tracker for couples. One device is the wrong starting point.
