Sleep Tracker That Shows a Minute-by-Minute Overnight Timeline (Not Just a Score)
If you searched "sleep tracker that shows a minute by minute overnight timeline," you already know what you don't want: a single number that says "sleep score 87" with no detail about when you rolled over, when you woke up, or what happened at 3am. You want the story, not the summary.
This page is the practical answer. Disclosure: I am Dovy, founder of Komori Care. We are building a contactless bedside monitor (60GHz radar + nightstand base) for sleep position and Night Review — a minute-level overnight timeline — coming 2027. General wellness only, not a medical device, not for seizure detection.
Quick answer — pick by job
Sleep tracker with overnight timeline (not just a score):
- Need stages timeline tonight (buy now): Oura Ring, Apple Watch, Fitbit — wearables that show sleep stages (light / deep / REM / awake) as a graph over the night. Good stage detail; weak or absent true body position.
- Need contactless stages timeline: Withings Sleep Analyzer, Eight Sleep Pod — under-mattress or in-bed sensors that show stages, HR, breathing over time. Strong biometrics; weak position detail.
- Need position + movement timeline without a wearable (wait): Komori Care Night Review — overhead 60GHz for back/side/stomach shifts, restlessness, optional bed-exit and sound-event features; designed as a minute-level timeline, not a single score. Kickstarter planned Q1 2027; wellness only.
Orthosomnia caution: Obsessing over sleep scores can make sleep worse. If you find yourself anxious about hitting a number, that is a sign to step back. Morning timelines are useful for pattern awareness, not for perfection chasing.
Score vs Night Timeline — what's the difference?
| Output type | What it shows | Good for | Downside |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleep score (single number) | Composite metric: duration + quality + consistency | Quick glance, trend over weeks | Hides detail; can trigger anxiety; "why was I 73 not 85?" |
| Stages timeline (wearable, mat) | Light / deep / REM / awake over the night | Stage pattern awareness, sleep architecture | Good for stages; weak or absent body position |
| Position + movement timeline (radar) | Back / side / stomach shifts, restlessness, events | Position habit awareness, "what happened at 3am?" | Requires radar design; not stages-first |
Komori's design intent: Night Review is built around the timeline, not a score. You open the app and see: when did you go to bed, when did you shift from side to back, when did you get restless, when did you get up. Position and movement events are the product, not a composite number.
Why Komori is building Night Review (not a score)
We chose timeline-first because:
- Position is the wedge. Back vs side vs stomach matters for reflux, snoring habits, and morning body awareness. A score collapses that detail.
- Scores hide causality. "Sleep score 68" does not tell you why. "Restless from 2:47am–3:12am, rolled from left side to back at 3:18am" gives you context.
- Orthosomnia is real. Chasing a perfect score can make sleep worse. A timeline is informational, not judgmental.
- Morning review, not real-time alerts. Night Review is designed for coffee-in-hand reflection, not 3am notifications.
What wearables and mats show (honest comparison)
| Device | Timeline detail | Position | Contactless | Buy now |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oura Ring | Stages (light/deep/REM), HR, HRV over time | No | No (worn) | ✓ Yes |
| Apple Watch | Stages, HR, respiratory rate over time | No | No (worn) | ✓ Yes |
| Withings Sleep Analyzer | Stages, HR, breathing, snoring over time | Weak | ✓ Yes (under mattress) | ✓ Yes |
| Eight Sleep Pod | Stages, HR, HRV, breathing, temperature over time | Weak | ✓ Yes (in bed) | ✓ Yes |
| Komori Night Review (2027) | Position, movement, restlessness, optional events | Yes (back/side/stomach) | ✓ Yes (bedside) | No (wait) |
The honest take: If you need a stages timeline tonight, Oura or Apple Watch are excellent wearables. If you need contactless stages, Withings or Eight Sleep. If you need a position timeline without a wearable, you are in wait-for-radar territory.
Orthosomnia — when timelines become a problem
Orthosomnia is the clinical term for sleep tracker obsession that makes sleep worse. Signs you might have it:
- You wake up anxious about last night's score before you even check it
- You change your morning routine (skip coffee, skip exercise) to protect your score
- You spend more time optimizing tracking than actually sleeping
- You feel worse on days when your score is "bad" even if you feel rested
If this sounds like you: Consider taking a break from tracking, or switch from score-focused devices to timeline-only review. Night Review is designed to show you what happened, not to judge you.
What Komori is building (honest)
Komori's design intent for overnight timeline:
- Overhead 60GHz FMCW radar for position and movement through blankets
- Nightstand base for local processing (no camera, no wearable, no raw video/audio kept by default)
- Morning Night Review timeline: minute-level position shifts (back/side/stomach), restlessness, optional bed-exit and sound-event features
- No sleep score by default. The timeline is the product.
- Privacy-first: local processing, no cloud by default, no camera image formation
- Coming 2027 (Kickstarter Q1 2027); wellness only; not FDA-cleared; not for medical alerting
How to choose in one minute
- Stages timeline tonight: Oura, Apple Watch, Fitbit (wearables); Withings, Eight Sleep (contactless).
- Position timeline: Wait for radar (Komori 2027); or try under-mattress mats and accept weak position detail.
- Score-free tracking: Look for devices that let you hide or ignore the score. Night Review is designed with no score by default.
- Orthosomnia risk: If you find yourself anxious about tracking, take a break. Sleep is not a test.
Wellness boundary
No consumer sleep tracker replaces clinical sleep studies or medical diagnosis. Komori does not detect seizures, is not FDA-cleared, and is not intended for medical monitoring. Night Review is wellness habit awareness for morning reflection, not real-time medical alerting.
FAQ / Quick Answers
- Sleep tracker that shows a minute by minute overnight timeline? Oura/Apple Watch for stages timeline tonight; Withings/Eight Sleep for contactless stages; Komori Night Review (2027) for position + movement timeline without a wearable.
- What is Night Review? Komori's designed-to morning timeline product: back/side/stomach position shifts, restlessness, optional bed-exit and sound-event features. No sleep score by default. Coming 2027.
- Do wearables show timelines? Yes. Oura, Apple Watch, Fitbit show stages (light/deep/REM/awake) over the night. They do not reliably show body position (back/side/stomach).
- Why no sleep score? Scores collapse detail and can trigger orthosomnia (sleep tracker anxiety). Night Review is designed as a timeline for pattern awareness, not perfection chasing.
- Is Komori shipping? No — coming 2027; Kickstarter planned Q1 2027; general wellness only.
- What if I'm obsessing over my sleep score? That is orthosomnia. Consider taking a break from tracking, or switch to timeline-only devices that do not judge your sleep.
